September 21, 2022 (Louisville, Ky.) – The United States Department of Education has announced that St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Louisville has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2022 by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.   St. Francis of Assisi School, located at 1938 Alfresco Place, Louisville, Ky, is a two-time recipient of this award, last being recognized in 2016.

St. Francis of Assisi is only one of six schools in Kentucky to be recognized this year and the only school in Jefferson County to receive this designation.  This year the U.S. Department of Education recognized 273 public schools and 24 non-public schools nationwide.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors non-public schools for helping students achieve at very high levels.  St. Francis of Assisi qualified to apply for the Blue Ribbon recognition with MAP test scores in the 85th percentile or above. In addition, St. Francis of Assisi has outstanding spiritual, academic, and extracurricular programs with unique characteristics that set the school apart.

St. Francis of Assisi School joins five secondary schools and 16 other elementary schools that have previously received this award one or more times.  The five secondary schools are Assumption High School, Mercy Academy, Sacred Heart Academy, Trinity High School, and Saint Xavier High School, all in Louisville. The 16 other elementary schools are Saint Agnes, Saint Albert, Ascension, Saint Gabriel, Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, Saint Margaret Mary, Saint Mary Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Patrick, Saint Raphael, and Sacred Heart Model School, all in Louisville, and Saint Aloysius in Pewee Valley, Ky, Saint Dominic in Springfield, Ky, Saint James in Elizabethtown, Ky, and Saint Joseph in Bardstown, Ky.

The U.S. Department of Education will recognize St. Francis of Assisi School in Washington, DC on November 3-4, 2022. St. Francis of Assisi School also will plan a local celebration.
