September 23, 2024 (Louisville, Ky.) The United States Department of Education has announced that St. Albert the Great Catholic School has been recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona. St. Albert the Great, located at 1395 Girard Drive, is a three-time recipient of this award. The school was also recognized in 2004 and 2015.
St. Albert the Great is one of seven schools in Kentucky to be recognized this year and the only school in Jefferson County to receive this designation. This year the U.S. Department of Education recognized 316 public schools and 40 non-public schools nationwide.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors non-public schools for helping students achieve at very high levels. St. Albert the Great Catholic School qualified to apply for the Blue Ribbon recognition with Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test scores in the 85% percentile or above. In addition, St. Albert has outstanding spiritual, academic and extracurricular programs with unique characteristics that set the school apart.
St. Albert joins five secondary schools and 16 other elementary schools in the archdiocese that have previously received this award one or more times. The five secondary schools are Assumption High School, Mercy Academy, Sacred Heart Academy, St. Xavier High School and Trinity High School, all in Louisville. The 16 elementary schools are St. Agnes, Ascension, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Gabriel, Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity, St. Margaret Mary, St. Mary Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Patrick, St. Raphael and Sacred Heart Model School, all in Louisville, and St. Aloysius in Pewee Valley, Ky, St. Dominic in Springfield, Ky, St. James in Elizabethtown, Ky, and St. Joseph in Bardstown, Ky.
St. Albert the Great will hold a surprise pep rally for the students in the gym around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, students and staff will wear blue shirts and form a blue ribbon for a school-wide photo. St. Albert the Great will formally celebrate the Blue Ribbon achievement on November 15, the Feast Day of St. Albert the Great. More details will be provided soon.
