Swahili Mass @ St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and its African Ministries offer a Swahili Mass (Kiswahili Misa) on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m., St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church located at 3112 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. Join Fr. Deogratias Ssamba, A.J. for the Mass. All are welcome! Swahili is a Bantu language widely used as a lingua franca (a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different) in East Africa and having official status in several countries. Ordination to the Order of Deacon @ Cathedral of the Assumption

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre will ordain seminarian Evrard Muhoza as a transitional deacon on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville.

A native of Burundi, Muhoza and his parents moved to Louisville in 2014. He currently attends St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in southern Indiana where he is in his seventh year of formation. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Catholic studies from Marian University in Indianapolis.

Important Traffic and Parking Notice

Traffic delays are anticipated on the morning of the Diaconate Ordination, coinciding with the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon. It is recommended that you approach the Cathedral via I-64, utilizing the 9th Street exit. Additionally, parking may be limited due to the presence of runners and their supporters. To ensure timely arrival, please allocate extra time for your journey to the Cathedral.

Kirundi/Kinyarwanda Mass @ St. Thomas More

Join Fr. Expedito Muwonge for the Mass. All are welcome! Kirundi, also known as Rundi, is a Bantu language and the national language of Burundi. It is a dialect spoken in Rwanda and adjacent parts of Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, as well as in Kenya. Kinyarwanda, Rwandan or Rwanda, officially known as Ikinyarwanda, is a Bantu language and the national language of Rwanda. It is a dialect of the Rwanda-Rundi language that is spoken in Burundi and adjacent parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Tanzania. This session will explore Pope Francis’s 2019 letter to young people. Overshadowed by the 2020 pandemic, this letter continues to offer insights into a reengagement for youth and their relationship with Christ in the 21st century. Focus will also be paid to discuss several holy men and women who are exemplars of faith for youth and young adults mentioned in the letter, as well as the Pontiff’s insight into the digitalization of culture.

Catechist Credit: 3 hours apply toward Associate Level in the area of Overview of Catechetical Ministry

This course will focus on the catechetical process in passing on the faith, introduce some of the distinguishing characteristics of the Catholic Church, review the process of Catechist Formation, and introduce practical resources from the Office of Faith Formation.

*Participants will be expected to complete 2 assignments before class.  The assignments will be sent via email at the time of registration.
