My heart is heavy after learning about the violent attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans earlier on this New Year’s Day 2025. I am saddened that anyone would commit such a senseless act of violence against the sanctity of all human life. Having been privileged to serve the people of the “Crescent City” as auxiliary bishop from 2007-2013, I join Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond in praying for the repose of the souls of those who have lost their lives, the healing of those who are recovering from their injuries, and support for the families of all the victims.

As we hold fast to our faith in Jesus Christ who broke down the dividing wall of hostility and division, on this World Day of Peace, I invite the faithful of the Archdiocese of Louisville to join me in praying for all people who have been affected by violence, hatred, and oppression. May our continued commitment to uphold the dignity of all human life enable everyone to value their own life and the lives of others, thus fostering joyful hope for a future filled with love and happiness for generations to come.

Most Rev. Shelton J. Fabre
Archbishop of Louisville
