Bobby & Jacqueline’s Story
With our busy lives, we couldn’t be bothered with Church.
Bobby: I was born in a devout Catholic family.
Church on Sundays and holy days of obligation were a priority, and all six of us attended Catholic grade school. As my independence grew in high school, the importance of going to Mass decreased, and by the end of my senior year I took a job that required me to work on Sundays, and I stopped attending Mass altogether.
Jacqueline: My faith journey began 42 years ago when as a child I grew up in a Lutheran home. I went to church and Sunday school faithfully as a child, but like Bobby, I was less than faithful about church attendance and my faith as I got older.
After our marriage, we had our children baptized because that was expected of us, but we couldn’t be bothered to attend Church much.
Then one day everything changed. I had a normal day until that evening. Bobby and I were talking, and then I started crying and couldn’t seem to stop. I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I had a revelation that we needed to start going to Church and raising our children in a faith-filled home. I decided to become a Catholic.
Jacqueline and Bobby: Our lives changed after Jacqueline joined the RCIA and dove in head first. Soon, both of us became involved, Jacqueline with the RCIA and PREP program, both of us teaching Confirmation classes, and Bobby as an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus.
In a nutshell, Bobby was a cradle Catholic, drifted away and was then called back as a byproduct of Jacqueline’s calling.
Our journey continues. We now have two children and are firmly entrenched in the Church. We have built a wonderful social network through the church, which we wouldn’t trade for anything. It continues to amaze us as we look back at whatever came upon Jacqueline that day six years ago; it is nothing short of a miracle. God does talk to us if we simply listen.
