Collection Policy
The Archdiocese of Louisville Archives primarily collects inactive, original records created by the work of Archdiocesan administration, parishes, schools, priests and deacons. The Archives also maintains a collection of historical artifacts and papers reflecting Catholic culture beginning in late 1700s Kentucky to present day. Donation of archival materials are accepted and encouraged when consistent with the collection policy.
Access Policy
The Archdiocese of Louisville and the Archives Office are not public institutions and its records are not public records. The Archives does welcome and encourage as much openness and availability of its collection as possible. The Archdiocesan Archivist is responsible for safeguarding the artifacts and collections of the Archives. Most collections are open with little to no restrictions. Closed collections may open after a certain amount of time has passed and will be made available in a scheduled manner.
Records that have not been accessed are not open for research. Material condition may restrict access.
Publication Policy
Publishing from print or non-print works found in the Office for Archives and Records requires permission from the Archdiocese of Louisville Archives Office. Researchers desiring to publish will be required to complete a Permission to Publish Form. Completion of the Permission to Publish Form represents a contract between the author and the Archdiocese of Louisville. Permission is not required and no fees are associated with the general use or reproduction of brief excerpts and quotations as defined by the U.S. Copyright Act. Notification of such use is appreciated. Please credit: Courtesy of the Archdiocese of Louisville. Scholars and researches who publish using archival material from the Archdiocese of Louisville are asked to send a copy of their work to the Archives.

Copyright Policy
Photocopying provisions are subject to United States Copyright Regulations. The Archdiocese of Louisville is the sole copyright owner of manuscript items held by the Archives Office, but may not own copyright for all items in need of copying. The Archdiocese of Louisville Archives assumes no responsibility for copyright infringement by researchers.
